The year begins with a visit to a railway station. We will meet at Etchingham Station, Station Approach, High Street, Etchingham. At 10:15, Paul, our host, will provide tea/coffee and homemade cakes at the Bistro. The small station garden has been designed and built by The English Heritage Gardens with formal yew hedging and topiary designed by one of our members, Charlotte Molesworth.
Next follows a short drive to Kings Hill House, Hurst Green where the owner or Peter Baldock (ex-Head Gardener at Pashley Park Gardens) will give a talk. The gardens were designed by Luciano Giubbilei, three times Chelsea gold winner and awarded ‘Best in Show’ in 2014. They are laid out in a structured form, with topiary elements, some of which were also designed by Charlotte Molesworth.
Afterwards, we visit King John’s Gardens and Nursery in Etchingham were we will visit the garden and nursery, followed by a light lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit Frankham Manor, Mark Cross. The owners have created extensive formal gardens, which include a sunken walled garden with a boxwood parterre created to celebrate the Millennium. There is also an open amphitheatre, water features and orchards.
A full afternoon cream tea will be served before departure, which will be at 17:00.
